In August last year we went to Robe in South Australia for a week. Coming out of winter the weather was still a little cold for swimming, but we still managed to spend a lot of time on the beach!

There are lots of dog-friendly beaches and walking trails in Robe, especially in winter (but check local council regulations before visiting, in the peak summer season some of the beaches become more restricted in terms of dog-access).

Easily our favourite beach was West Beach. On West Beach dogs are allowed off-leash all year round. It is a long expanse of beach and feels more wild and exposed than the more sheltered Long Beach. The stretch of beach we walked was ~ 2km but you can go further. It's NOT a good beach for swimming (big waves, rips) - but it's a pretty great beach for zooming around on the sand!

For the more adventurous types there are also plenty of rocky platforms to be explored.

This part of the coast is famous for its seafood - so we took a small road trip to Kingston SE for the obligatory tourist photo with Larry the Lobster. As you can see, our pawrents were more excited by the prospect than we were.

If you are love wildlife like our pawrents, there is plenty to see around Robe. We were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins in Guichen Bay at sunset.

...and we ran into this guy on our walk to West Beach.

Robe has many dog-friendly cafes and restaurants with plenty of outdoor seating. No 4. Robe even has a dog menu. We can personally recommend their doggychino!

We had a great time exploring Robe. It was our first road-trip interstate and we can't wait for the next one!!
